In a major political event, Narendra Modi has been chosen as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), shortly after the Lok Sabha election results. The decision was made during a meeting at Samvidhan Sadan in Parliament on Friday.
The BJP won 240 seats but did not reach the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha. To form the government, they teamed up with allies, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)). Together, the NDA secured 293 seats, establishing a strong coalition government. Modi emphasized the importance of mutual trust within the alliance and their commitment to the principle of ‘sarv pantha sambhava’ (equality of all sects).
After being elected as the NDA leader, Modi and other alliance leaders will meet President Droupadi Murmu to claim the right to form the government. Modi, along with his cabinet, had resigned earlier to make way for the new government.
Oath Ceremony Plans
Senior BJP leader Pralhad Joshi announced that Modi will be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time on Sunday, June 9, at 6 PM. The ceremony will be attended by leaders from neighboring countries including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, and Mauritius. This emphasizes India’s focus on strengthening ties and cooperation with its neighboring island nations in the Indian Ocean.
This powerful coalition, considered one of the strongest in India’s history, marks a significant moment in the country’s political scene, promising stability and continuous governance.
